What We're About

Over time, we have come to the realization that the label Ásatrú no longer reflects who we are or what we stand for. Ásatrú, especially as it has evolved in America, has become burdened by politics, division, and the agendas of a few rather than a genuine calling to the gods. What we thought was a movement towards spiritual revival has proven to be marred by dogma and controversy, creating a false feeling of worship and fellowship, while distancing itself from the open, personal devotion that was supposed to define it.

The Gjallarhorn Kindred has chosen to leave the Ásatrú label behind entirely. We walk a more broadly heathen path, one that seeks authentic connection to our gods through the stories, wisdom, and energy of our ancestors, free from the confines of any modern organization or ideology.

Our kindred is home to individuals of diverse backgrounds; Scandinavian, Persian, Celtic, Hispanic, Germanic, and more, individually honoring their ancestry while finding shared inspiration in the Norse pantheon and the greater tapestry of Indo-European belief. We believe ancestor veneration is deeply personal and that the gods may be approached in many ways. Our focus lies in study, story, camaraderie, and sincere reverence, not hierarchy or politics.

We remain devoted to the old gods, guided by the echoes of the sagas and the strength of kinship. The horn of Gjallar still sounds for those who hear the call of something older, deeper, and true.

Our Values

Strength is better than weakness: Let others revel in their vulnerability.

Courage is better than meekness: By facing life’s struggles with courage, we constantly extend our capabilities.

Joy is better than guilt: Let us take pleasure in our humanity.

Honor is better than dishonor: Our internal standards must be banners held high in our hearts.

Freedom is better than slavery: Those who would enslave us, whatever their excuse, are our enemies.

Kinship is better than alienation: The isolation and loneliness of modern life should be foreign to us.

Realism is better than dogmatism: Our ancestors may have been sublimely mystical, but they were at the same time severely practical.

Vigor is better than lethargy: Let us take risks and taste the richness of life. Passivity is for sheep.

Ancestry is better than universalism: Ásatrú is not for all.
